This mountain adventure takes you across steep ascents, rocky terrain and a long, undulating ridge, with spectacular views stretching across the surrounding Highlands and towards the west coast on clear days. Every climb brings a new perspective and another step towards the summit.

Expect a full day in the mountains, with sustained ascents and uneven, rocky ground that will test your fitness, stamina and determination. This adventure is ideal for experienced hillwalkers with a good level of fitness, a sense of adventure and a desire to explore one of Argyll's magnificent Munros.

Clothing (Layering System)

Moisture-wicking base layer (merino or synthetic)
Mid layer (fleece or lightweight insulated jacket)
GORE-TEX waterproof jacket (fully taped seams, breathable membrane)
Waterproof over-trousers (GORE-TEX or similar technical shell)
Walking trousers or softshells (avoid jeans)
Warm hat and gloves (even in summer)
Buff or neck gaiter
Spare dry layer

Footwear

Sturdy hiking boots (mid/high cut for ankle support)
Vibram sole recommended for grip
Merino hiking socks (plus spare pair)

Backpack & Essentials

20–30L daypack
Waterproof liner or dry bags
1.5–2 litres of water (hydration bladder or bottles)
Headtorch
Personal first aid kit

Take on a Highland Classic

Get ready for a challenging Highland adventure as you tackle Beinn Sgulaird, a rugged and rewarding Munro in the heart of Argyll. With steep climbs, a long, undulating ridge and rocky mountain terrain, this is a demanding day on the hill that rewards every effort with spectacular scenery and a real sense of achievement.

Begin the Ascent

The adventure begins with a climb from the Glen Creran side, gradually gaining height as you leave the glen behind and venture into the rugged Highland landscape. As you ascend, the views open up across the surrounding hills and mountains, offering a glimpse of the spectacular scenery that lies ahead.

Tackle Beinn Sgulaird

Continue upwards towards the mountain's broad, rugged ridge, where the terrain becomes rougher and the walking more challenging. Expect sustained climbing, rocky ground and an undulating route that will test your legs and stamina. Reaching the summit at 937 metres, you'll have earned your place on one of Argyll's impressive Munros.

Enjoy the Highland Views

Take time to pause, refuel and appreciate the wild beauty of the surrounding landscape. On a clear day, the views extend across the mountains of Argyll and towards the west coast. Complete the Adventure

After reaching the summit, begin the journey back down towards the glen, carefully negotiating the rugged terrain along the way. With a Munro conquered, tired legs and some memorable Highland views behind you, you'll finish the day with a real sense of accomplishment.
